  • Firewalls, intrusion detection systems, web application firewalls, network isolation, auditing systems, data classifications, and data obfuscation•    SSL encryption facilitation by an Extended Validation SSL Certificate issued by a recognized, trusted certificate authority•    Security guards, access controls, biometrics, man traps, and other security mechanisms to protect physical access to the datacenter

Dedicated Security Team

Our team of cybersecurity experts work routinely with state Departments of Revenue and the IRS to help protect your personal data. We perform regular internal audits throughout the year to ensure our IT systems are maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and Ramsey SmartTax’s Information Security Policy.

HOW YOU CAN PROTECT YOURSELF

Always have anti-virus protection software installed and running on your home computer. Because older programs are more likely to have security vulnerabilities that have already been discovered and hacked, it is recommended that you enable automatic updates for your operating system and software programs.

Be smart with your personal information. NEVER send your Social Security Number, passwords, credit card numbers, account numbers, or other sensitive data in an e-mail message or text.

Beware of phishing emails and other online scams. Never click on a link or download an attachment from an unknown sender. If you shop online, only provide credit card information to reputable retailers. If an email looks suspicious, trust your instinct, and verify the source before you interact with it.

RECOGNIZE AND AVOID COMMON TAX SCAMS

Phone calls by impersonators and phishing emails are among the most common tactics used by scammers to obtain personal and financial information from victims. Be aware:

  • The IRS will never request your personal or financial information through an email, text, or social media message.•    The IRS will never demand you pay a tax bill immediately, without giving you a chance to appeal the amount.•    The IRS will never ask for your credit card or bank information over the phone.•    The IRS will never require you to make a payment to anyone other than the U.S. Treasury.•    The IRS will never threaten you with arrest.
